Up to The Matterhorn, Switzerland!

Day 9 - Up to The Matterhorn, Switzerland!

Stresa, Simplon Pass, Traesch, Zermatt, Stresa

Saturday, 7 May 2011
Mountain peaks soar either side as we are driven over the spectacular Simplon Pass into the mighty Swiss Alps and down into the "Swiss Valais".
We arrived in Taesch mid morning where we boarded the Alpine cog railway up to the picture postcard village of Zermatt. Here we walked around the village taking in all it had to offer in contrast to what we are used to in Australia, especially Brisbane. BUT, we had lunch in McDonalds here (and we were sprung) but it was slightly different to Maccas here.
Anyway shortly afterwards we took the funicular train up to Gornergrat which is the highest open air railway station in Europe. 3089m to be precise! The views across the Alps and of the Matterhorn were beyond belief! Check out the photos!
Later we returned to our hotel in Stresa and had dinner here. the food was great but the best part was that one of the waiters was so much like Manuel from "Faulty Towers", in looks and manners!

At the foothills of the Swiss Alps but still in It
