Pompeii and then Maiori on the Amalfi Coast

Day 19 - Pompeii and then Maiori on the Amalfi Coast

Spoleto, Pompei, Maiori

Tuesday, 17 May 2011
Today we drove south past Mount Vesuvius and visited the ancient ruins of Pompei. A local guide tools us through this city that was buried under volcanic ash in AD 79. Paintings, furniture mosaics, sculptures, graffiti and even loaves in ovens are wonderfully preserved. We found Pompeii to be absolutely fascinating!
From here it was only a short drive to the Reginna Palace hotel in Maiori, on the Amalfi Coast for the next three nights. The road along the Amalfi Coast was awesome, narrow and windy but the vistas were outstanding!
